The LEGO Movie, also referred to as LEGO - The Movie, is a 1994 CG brickfilm by Swiss production group Animagica, conceived by director Dent-de-Lion du Midi and animated by Claude Aebersold and Alex Furer.[1] It was in production from summer 1993 to August 1994, and it appears that there may have been an updated version created in 1995.[2][3] It was created to demonstrate the potential of having a 3D database of LEGO brick models, and using 3D to create LEGO commercials, films, interactive media on CD-ROM, and internet content.

Dent-de-Lion du Midi took the film to the LEGO headquarters in Billund, Denmark, to present it and his visions to the owner of LEGO.[4] Animagica was acquired by LEGO, and the members of the group joined with other employees of LEGO to work on digital 3D content for LEGO going forward.[5] The first project they created was interactive instructions for the LEGO Technic set 8299 Search Sub, which was the first LEGO set to include a CD.[6]
