Out of Bonds is a 2009 comedy brickfilm by David Pickett.[1] It is the first part of Nightly News at Nine Chapter 1 - New Beginnings and follows a news report on a prison breakout in which the evil Malifios is freed.[2][3]
Out of Bonds is actually the third NNN film to be released, as the later part Pro-Green Commercial was initially released prior as Green: A better Color for better building in order to be entered in to The Quick Short Advertising Contest, in which it won third place.
Plot
Phil Brickley and Sherry Tiles report the news that a prison breakout has occurred as a result of a nearby soccer game going horribly awry. They cut to previously recorded footage of sportscaster Steve Flatwise commentating on the game when the soccer field suddenly transforms into a giant creature that he christens "soccersaurus". Soccersaurus crushes everything in its path and reaches the prison across the street which it demolishes, allowing the prisoners to escape. The camera is hijacked by the evil Malifios, who announces that he has escaped from prison and that he plans to destroy New Block City. Phil Brickley reports that Malifios dragged Steve Flatwise out of the wreckage and recorded another message, which is then aired. Malifios stands next to a tied up Steve and orders Phil and Sherry to air his previous threat if they want Steve returned.
Phil states that it is against company policy to negotiate with hostage-takers and so announces that they now have a job opening for a new sportscaster. A man enters and is immediately hired by Phil, but Sherry requests more thought be given to the decision as it is obvious that the man is actually Malifios. Phil asks for his name and he replies that he is Robert Vylan, which is enough to convince Phil that the man is not Malifios and to subsequently hire him.[1]
